My inspirations
Personally I take my inspiration from very different places. It can be a person, as well as a building, an animal or even a piece of nature. I think inspiration is all around us if you just look with the right eyes and think with the right mindset. Musea also inspire me so much since you can literally step into the past, learn from it and get inspired by it. How can this big world full of wonders not be an inspiration to anybody? A couple of main sources I get my inspiration from are:
- Walt Disney and John Hench: I put these two amazing Imagineers together because I think that they are basically the duo that started it all. The amazing fantastic craftsmanship of Imagineering and Animation. Books about them, YouTube videos and movies I have seen them all. They are all so inspiring, they just start that fire in the core of my heart that I get from the amazing Themed Entertainment Design world.
- Disney Imagineering books like: Designing Disney, Imagineering and the Art of the Show. The Art of Moana. The Art of Frozen. Color & Light from James Gurney. Theme Park Design & The Art of Themed Entertainment and Walt Disney Imagineering are a couple of books I have on my shelf to entertain as well as teach me a lot about this amazing work field. They give such amazing insights into the processes that you cannot find on the internet.
- Laura Price aka Lulu Sketches: She is a Visual Development Artist that currently works for Paramount and has worked for Disney in the past. I love her drawing style a lot since it is a really cool mix between realistic anatomy and a cartoonish style. I follow her on social media and I watch her YouTube channel.
- Erika Wiseman aka Erica the Goober: She is an Illustrator as well as a Character Designer and she works freelance. Her style I adore even more since it has even a bit more fantasy than Laura's work and she gets her inspiration from movies (like Disney) and games (like animal crossing) that I like a lot as well. I follow her on social media and I watch her YouTube channel.
- Trent Kaniuga: He is a Character Designer as well as a Concept Artist for a lot of different games including Fortnite and League of Legends. I personally love these kind of games just like Smite for example. The fantasy level on his designs are just amazing. Trent's work process is especially interesting to follow since he works for a lot of online games that need tweaking and changes all the time. Instead of working on a game for years and releasing it all at once, onlinegame artists are working on the game while it is already out. Because of this work process I think you can learn a lot from these artists that are under a constant pressure, because something that they are working on has to be released next week for example. And their mistakes are always immediately out for the world to see. I think you have to be very skilled and have a good eye for detail for this kind of work process. I follow him on social media and I watch his YouTube channel.
- Molly Brady aka Pixels by Molly: Molly Brady is a Pixel Artist that makes really cute pixel artworks that make me think of the early video games. One of the games that I played as a child, that her work reminds me of, is the Hamtaro game for the Nintendo DS. The style is so cute and feels very nostalgic for me. I follow her on social media.
- Arthur Gimaldinov aka Gimaldinov: He is a Character Concept Artist. He creates amazing fantasy warriors and lots of other amazing characters and creatures. His style is more for wargames and such, just like Trent's, so his designs are also very fantasy like, impressive and intimidating. I follow him on social media.
- Lucas Peinador: He is a Concept Artist and Illustrator. I follow him on social media but I am mainly inspired by his YouTube videos. They are very educational and he gives good explanations.
- Mitch Leeuwe: He is a Visual Development Artist from The Netherlands actually. This makes it more relatable form me since I'm from The Netherlands to. I follow him on social media but I am mainly inspired by his clear and very nice lessons on Gumroad.com and YouTube. His style is also one I enjoy a lot. The cartoonish style.
- Classical Art Details (Instagram): This is an Instagram that shares classical art which I also love a lot. The account shares paintings as well as sculptures and costumes. Very inspiring.
